Welcome to ECCO!

ECCO aims to promote awareness, responsibility and activism in environmental matters among citizens along Chennai's East Coast Road.

Just twenty years ago Besant Nagar and Tiruvanmiyur were sweet watered, clean, spacious neighbourhoods. Look at them today and you can see the future that awaits all villages south.

Between peoples' migration, rapidly growing commercial establishments and little awareness of laws, that future might in fact be racing towards us.

Issues of water conservation, waste management and noise and other pollutions should engage all concerned citizens along the ECR. ECCO is an organisation conceived to bring together such citizens. ECCO is not about rights and litigation only, but about personal awareness and duties. In fact membership is open only to those who pledge in writing, their commitment to responsibility before asserting rights.

Much can be done if we all come together instead of leaving it for others to do it for us. This site hopes to be the centre to disseminate ideas, news, information and success stories.
